Of course, despite all the craziness going about, Hideo was a trainer like any other. And one thing trainers loved doing was catching Pokemon, new ones most of all.

So once he heard that Squirtle’s cry, his attention was on it, his Starmie immediately floating in front. The Squirtle took the opening move, firing a Water Gun at the Starmie, but was countered by the starfish’s own Water Gun. And just as the Squirtle went for a stronger burst of water, that too was countered by the Starmie’s own Hydro Pump.

Its first two options out of the question, it tried going in close for an Aqua Tail, only to fail when the Starmie flew out of reach. And just as it tried to think what to do next, the Starmie took the initiative:

It was certainly a strange sound, and Hideo was confused, unsure what his Pokemon was doing. It was the first time he ever heard it use Round, but he’d heard other Pokemon use that attack before, and their song wasn’t nearly as…strange as this one.

Yet he heard the Squirtle hit the ground. As confused as he was, he wasn’t going to waste this opportunity, tossing a Pokeball at where he heard it drop.
